Textual Data Analysis of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines and the 2018 Draft Federal Constitution

by X. J. Bilon

On 9 July 2018, the Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution released the draft constitution that it submitted for the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte. If ratified, the constitution will allow the shift to a federal system of government from the current unitary system.

A simple visualisation and analysis of word frequency in the current 1987 Constitution of the Philippines and the draft federal constitution were done. Only top 200 words (out of 10,000+) are shown in the text clouds; union of top 20 words in the current and draft constitutions is shown in the bar plots. Standard English stopwords, and words "shall", "section", "may", "provided", "thereof", and "must" were removed. No stemming was done.
